James Caan CBE

Having founded Recruitment Entrepreneur in 2014, former Dragons' Den star and serial entrepreneur James Caan CBE plays a pivotal role in shaping each business within our portfolio. 

James has been in recruitment for over 30 years and invests in recruitment companies of all sizes across various geographies and sectors.

Alexander Mann, his first recruitment business, sold in 2013 for £260 million. His second recruitment venture, Humana International, grew to 140 offices across 30 countries.

With 3 million followers, James was named LinkedIn’s second most influential voice of 2017. His global network, both online and offline, has assisted our current CEOs in attracting the best talent, clients and candidates to their businesses.

As Chairman, James takes an active role in the investment process, working closely with the Recruitment Entrepreneur team to support you and your company. His hands-on approach enables entrepreneurs to learn from his considerable experience in founding and scaling recruitment businesses.

Country Director

Jason, a seasoned recruitment professional, began his career at Adecco NZ in 1994 and quickly became a top Temporary Consultant. In 1996, he moved to the UK and excelled at Hays, rising to Director and contributing significantly to their first major RPO win. Returning to New Zealand in 2002, he transformed an underperforming Hays division into a market leader with 95+ consultants, generating $90 million in revenue. In 2012, he joined the Australia/NZ Hays Operational Board, overseeing a $2 billion business. Jason pioneered the Hays Centre of Excellence in NZ, offering MSP and RPO services. 

In 2018, he launched his consulting business, specializing in coaching and training with RecruitmentSuccessCoach™. Jason, a certified HBDI WholeBrain Practitioner, also conducts leadership workshops. As of September 2023, he serves as NZ Country Director for Recruitment Entrepreneur, supporting local founders in their success.

Tony brings 30 years of international experience in Europe, USA, and Asia, setting up successful cross-border partnerships and recruitment operations. 

Tony began his career as an electrical engineer, transitioning to recruitment in 2001 when he founded and scaled his own business. He later joined Cordant Recruitment Group in London and built a global recruitment function for an Italian engineering company operating in China, USA, and Europe. He then worked with Belcan, a large US-based engineering services and recruitment business, leading their International recruitment team to a successful turnaround.

Tony's strengths lie in executing financial and sales strategies, negotiating commercial agreements, advising business founders and partners on leadership, and participating in multiple sales and acquisition deals throughout his career.

James has a reputation for building innovative recruitment and Search methodologies that exceed expectation. With connections and friendships amongst the most influential leaders in New Zealand, James has over 25 years' experience and brings his unrivalled network, commercial capability and creative thinking to the search work Tribe does with our partners.

A West-Coaster from Karamea, Jenny is an HR and Search Industry leader who brings specialist knowledge from Consumer, FMCG, Food Service, and Food Manufacturing and Processing Sectors. Jenny has helped found 3 successful talent sourcing and Search agencies, and been instrumental in the talent sourcing strategies for many of New Zealand's leading brands. Jenny is incredibly down to earth, and is a confidant to many New Zealand Executives when it comes to organisational structures, culture, and diversity. She brings a pragmatic, commercial common sense to the work we do, and her engaging style will allow us to present opportunities where strong value propositions exist, even when we have challenges to overcome (as we do from time to time) with the client employment brands we work with.

With 20 years recruitment experience in the NZ and UK market, Emma has built and led many recruitment teams. Most recently, as EGM People and Culture at the New Zealand Racing Board, Emma led the people and capability function looking after all things people, from HR Delivery, Capability and Talent, Remuneration and Performance (including Payroll) and Health and Safety. Emma’s extensive leadership network allows Tribe's partners to tap into an additional layer of capability.
